Who’s covered by OHIP for an Eye Examination?

Vision problems are not usually accompanied by recognized symptoms.  That is why it is of utmost importance that people go for regular eye checkups to prevent serious eye issues. The Canadian Association of Optometrists recommends the following frequency:

Pre-school children ( 2-5 years)- once during this age group
School age children (6-19 years)- annually
Adults- every 2 years
Adults over 65- annually

OHIP covers eye exams for the following age groups:

  • Seniors 65 years and older
  • Children 19 Years or younger
  • Adults 20-64 are not covered by OHIP however certain medical conditions can be covered
