Meet Our Doctors

Dr. Aneesha Jain

Optometrist

Dr. Jain graduated from University of Toronto with Bachelors of Science with distinction. Her passion for helping others and her interest in the visual system lead her to become an optometrist. Dr. Jain graduated from The New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts and was part of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Honour Society. She has helped patients of all ages in various clinical, hospital, and institutional settings across North America.

Dr. Jain had the opportunity to intern at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Togus, Maine where she focused on providing compassionate care to war veterans with an emphasis on diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, cataract, and macular degeneration. In 2010, after qualifying as practitioner in the United States, Dr. Jain returned to the Greater Toronto Area to serve the community she grew up in. She is committed to the use of current medical advancements in her practice of primary optometric care.

Dr. David S. Sooklal

Optometrist

Dr. Sooklal earned an Honours Bachelor of Science degree from McMaster University and later obtained his optometric education at Aston University in Birmingham, United Kingdom. He trained in the use of therapeutic pharmaceutical agents at the University of Waterloo. Education at the University of Waterloo furthered his scope of practice in the areas of diagnosis, treatment, and management of ocular and systemic conditions.

Interests of Dr. Sooklal include the study of diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, dry eye therapy, binocular vision, and contact lenses. Dr. Sooklal is a registered Optometrist in Ontario. He is also a member of the College of Optometrist in both Ontario and the United Kingdom. Prior to practicing in Canada, Dr. Sooklal practiced optometry in the United Kingdom in both high street practice and domiciliary practice. He enjoys providing primary eye care and has found a great deal of satisfaction in providing this care to the community.

Visual Field Assessment

Visual Field Assessment is useful in diagnosing and monitoring conditions such as glaucoma, neurological and retinal diseases. Our team ensures a comprehensive exam by the use of leading computerized instruments to measure central and peripheral field of vision.

Optical Coherence Tomography

This advanced technology creates a 3D scan of the deeper layers of the retina. The result of the allow the Optometrist to detect and treat eye conditions in early stages before results are visible in an eye examination.

Digital Retinal Imaging

Digital Retinal Imaging takes a high resolution scan of the retina. This helps to diagnose and monitor various eye conditions such as Diabetes, Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration, Retinal Detachments, Cataracts, High Blood pressure, Choroidal Melanom. The image of the eye is stored for future use and to track changes in your eye health over time.

Diabetic Retinal Screening

Screening for diabetic retinopathy has been shown to be effective in preventing significant visual impairment. Annual  eye examinations are recommended for diabetic patients and are covered by OHIP. This eye exam includes, baseline vision measurements, binocular vision testing, pupil assessment, spectacle prescription check, dilated fundus examination and peripheral vision testing. 

Comprehensive Eye Exams

Halton Eye Care specializes in comprehensive examinations of the eye and visual system. We are equipped with the latest technology in diagnostic and examination equipment, which allows us to provide our patients with the most thorough eye examinations available. We practice the full scope of the Optometry profession, including diagnosis, prevention and treatment, refractive disorders, sensory and oculomotor disorders and diseases of the eye and visual system.

Private Insurance

Direct Billing is now possible for Comprehensive Eye Exams and Eye wear. Please inquire within to determine if your particular insurance provider is set up to complete this process.

Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP)

Patients over 65 years and those younger than 20 years, are covered by OHIP for a routine eye examination once every 12 months along with any follow-up assessments. Those patients between the ages of 20 to 64 years with specified medical conditions affecting the eye can receive an OHIP insured regular eye examination once every 12 months. Insured persons aged 20 to 64 who have certain medical conditions not listed above may also be covered for regular eye examinations. They should discuss this with their primary health care provider.
